NEBOSH International General Certificate

NEBOSH International General Certificate is a globally recognized health and safety qualification which is intended for companies or individuals working to international standards with regards to Health, Safety & Environment as this course focuses on the International Labor Standards (ILO) codes of practice.

Upon successful completion of the certificate, delegates can apply for a membership with Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and/or International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) as its qualification meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of IOSH and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the IIRSM.

The course is for

The International General Certificate is available to non UK nationals, employees of large organizations operating outside the UK, or multinational companies already working to international standards but needing to adapt these to accord with local needs and practice. It has been designed for personnel e.g. managers, supervisors, non-safety specialists, worker representatives who have both general and specific Health and Safety responsibilities within their organization.

Course content

The syllabus is divided into 3 units,

  • IGC 1 Management of international health and safety
  • IGC 2 Controlling workplace hazards
  • IGC 3 Health and safety practical application

There are 13 elements which cover a range of workplace hazards and methods of control and are as follows:

IGC 1 Management of international health and safety

  • Foundations in health and safety
  • Health and safety management systems – Plan
  • Health and safety management systems – Do
  • Health and safety management systems -Check
  • Health and safety management systems – Act

IGC 2 Controlling workplace hazards

  • Workplace hazards and risk control
  • Transport hazards and risk control
  • Musculoskeletal hazards and risk control
  • Work equipment hazards and risk control
  • Electrical safety
  • Fire safety
  • Chemical and biological health hazards and risk control
  • Physical and psychological health hazards and risk control

IGC 3 Health and safety practical application

Health and safety practical application – which is aimed at assessing a candidate’s ability to complete successfully this unit.

Course duration and assessment

The training is spread over 10 days plus 2 days for examinations. There will be written examinations on the 11th day which constitutes paper 1 management of international health and safety and paper 2 control of workplace hazards), each lasting two (2) hours. The 12th day is the practical assessment which comprises of site inspection and report writing.

Certification

Delegates are awarded the certificate on successful completion of two (2) hour written papers; management of safety & health, controlling workplace hazards and a practical assessment.

About the course

The NEBOSH Award in Health and Safety at Work is a latest qualification given that a fundamental perceptive of health and safety principles in the workplace, that will help develop the safety culture in an organization by equipping your place of work to recognize and deal with hazards at work. It is projected for companies or individuals working to an international standard for health and safety. A broad overview on health, safety and environmental topics will be provided to the individuals.

This preliminary qualification is designed at those who are interested in additional learning about health and safety. Providing a basic understanding of risks and hazards across all businesses and be capable of any country. Previous knowledge of health and safety is not necessary. This is an ideal introduction to a NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

  • hazards and control associated with hazardous substances
  • hazards and control associated with the working environment

Unit 2

  • safety workplace inspection
  • short report writing

How is the course assessed?

A multiple choice examination and a practical risk assessment which tests the ability to put into practice the knowledge gained during the course. This is an international qualification and the assessment may be taken in English and Arabic.

Certificate

Qualification parchments for unit 1 & unit 2 and the full award certificate will be awarded to all successful students, who must achieve the minimum pass standard in the examination and practical assessment
